From my experience, when people are asked, “what is your dream car”, most reply with something along the lines of a Ferrari, Lamborghini or some other supercar. Although I wouldn’t mind having a car by said companies, I just don’t think they’re realistic to own. So, this is my list of five realistic dream cars.

1) 2008 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500
The Ford Mustang has been on the top of my list for some time now. I not only love the history behind the Mustang and how much of an icon the car is, but I think that it has one of the greatest body designs out there on the market. The 5.4L-supercharged engine packs quite a punch at 500 horsepower. This is definitely my number one dream car!

2) 2008 Mitsubishi Evolution Lancer
The Mitsubishi Evo Lancer is just a mean looking car! The front end is sure to intimidate any other car out on the road. There are people who buy cars to add spoilers, body kits, hood scoops and so on, to make them look sporty, but the Evo Lancer is perfect in every way! The 2.0L turbocharged engine boasts 291 horsepower and is surely on the top of any car enthusiasts’ list!

3) 2008 Nissan Skyline GTR
Ah, yes, the Nissan GTR. It’s rear end looks like a Chevy Cobalt on steroids and it’s front end looks like a futuristic 350Z. What more can you ask for in a car? Under the hood, you’ll find a 3.4L twin-turbo engine pushing 480 horsepower. This car doesn’t even look like it should be out on the streets amongst other cars.

4) 2008 Volkswagen GTI
The Volkswagen GTI is an all-around great car for anyone. It has enough room for a family, it’s doesn’t scream “hey, look at me, I’m drive way above the seed limit”, and the price tag is fairly decent. Don’t be fooled by its looks. This little Vee Dub is running a 200 horsepower 2.0L turbo. Big things come in small packages!

5) 2008 Pontiac G6 GXP Coupe
The G6 wouldn’t be my first pick, but it’s a pretty quick and sporty car. It has pretty nice lines, and looks like a fun drive, which is important. The G6 sports a 256 horsepower 3.6L engine, all for a reasonable price!

So, that’s my list of 5 realistic dreams cars (all under $80,000). What are you dreams cars?

Everyone knows that any Apple event is always an exciting one. Yesterday was no different.

My brother and his friend had already won a spot in line, so I joined them about an hour before the store opened. Everyone was getting anxious. Cameras were being pointed at our face from every direction. A few passer-byers wondered what all the hype was about. Then, all of a sudden, a loud rawr was heard at the end of the line, and it got louder. As it got louder, a line of moving blue shirts became visible. Over 60 Apple employees ran beside the line and high-fived everyone. Huge smiles, and loud cheering attached. This left us with a feeling of excitement. Less than ten minutes passed before this happened again, only, they came running from the opposite side.

It hit five o’clock, and the line started to move. Within 10 minutes, it was our turn. The security guard let us go, and we walked through the entrance. The employees graced us with loud cheering and clapping. A white box was handed to each of us, which contained a t-shirt, sporting a hockey stick with iPod headphones hanging off of it - like so.

With the box in-hand, we walked through the store. A giant line of about 30 employees stood there, high-fiving any and everyone that walked by. I must have touched hands with at least 25 employees before I got to the glass stairs that lead to the second floor. After snapping a few pictures, I went upstairs, only to find even more employees, cheering even louder. The place was packed, people filming, taking pictures, high-fiving, yelling, chanting, ect. The mood and energy of the place was great, and was unlike anything I’ve seen.

Now that Apple opened up a store in downtown Montreal - a flagship store non-the-less - all the apple resellers in town are pretty much screwed, as the the staff at the resellers are always rude and unhelpful, whereas the Apple store employees are always a treat to deal with.

In conclusion, I was impressed with the energy of everyone there, and it was great fun! If you ever have a chance to check out an Apple store grand opening, you should really consider going.

If you’ve been living under a rock these past two weeks, stay there.

Two weeks ago, Rogers announced the data plans for the iPhone Canada. Being typical Rogers, these plans were outrageous and unfair. Canadians were going to be paying a minimum of $60 a month to get one third of what AT&T iPhone users get in the US.

Us Canadians have had to wait a year to get the iPhone, and when it finally came, we were shafted with unfair plans. In response, a petition was started. In less than two weeks, over 61,000 people have signed and have spoken their mind.

Rogers not only feeling the pressure of the petition, but also feeling the pressure from Apple, decided to grace us with a limited time offer of $30 for 6GBs of data a month. Although this isn’t unlimited, AT&T’s unlimited plans cap at 5GBs, so, it’s a pretty good deal. However, you have to act quick, because this offer only lasts until August 31st.

This brought my spirits up. I was looking forward to adding this $30 a month fee to my Rogers plan and then going in on Friday and being able to pick up a 16GB iPhone.

Turns out I’m wrong. Apparently, Rogers won’t be selling iPhones to anyone who isn’t eligible for a Hardware upgrade. I just signed a 3 year contract with Rogers in May, and they’re telling me that I won’t be allowed to purchase the iPhone until May of 2009. They also told me that iPhones will only be sold to people signing new 3-year contracts with Rogers or to people who haven’t had a phone upgrade in over a year.

What does this mean? It means that, by the time I’m granted the privilege of buying an iPhone (which will probably be around when a 3rd generation of iPhone will be out), the $30 for 6GBs of data will be over, thus forcing me to pay for their outrageous plans.

So, not only will I be iPhone-less on Friday, but I’ll have to wait until next May to get my iPhone, and onto of that, I’ll probably be forced to pay their ridiculous fees.

If you’re upset about this whole iPhone-Rogers situation, please help the cause and sign the online petition , give rogers a call and digg this. We shouldn’t have to take this from them.

*My facts are based on phone calls that I made to Apple and Rogers today.

Wow, it’s been over three months since my last post! Before I get into this short rant-of-a-post, let me just say that, I hope to now have some more free time, seeing as how I have only 2 days of school left, and my Personal Project is done! I have a lot of goals this summer, and one of them is to be a little more productive and to contribute more in the online community.

For those who use the Mac operating system, I’m sure you know by now, that Apple’s released a Leopard update; Mac OS X 10.5.3. The list of fixes and patches included in this update can be found here.

Since buying leopard, my computer’s run pretty smoothly, however, there are a few little issues that I’ve noticed as of recently. These issues however are not necessarily Leopard related, it’s just that, I’ve only really noticed them since I’ve had Leopard, which is between seven and eight months.

One thing, which is just nit-picky on my part, is that, the LED on my mag safe connector will sometimes just dim, to the point that I can’t tell what color it is. I’ll plug it in, and sometimes it’ll remain illuminated for a few hours, and other times, only a few minutes, which is just annoying, but nothing to really worry about, since it still works. Another mag safe issue, is the fact that, when I’m listening to Music or watching a video and I plug my computer into a power source, the song or video I’m watching will skip, repeatedly, for about 3 seconds.

Now, I don’t really believe those are really Leopard related issues, I just felt like getting those little annoying details off my chest. However, this next issue - that I’m almost certain is Leopard related, and has only begun since I updated to 10.5.3 last week - is a real pain in the ass.

You know when you have about 9 minutes left of battery, and you get a pop up window warning you that you’re running on reserve battery power, and unless you plug your laptop into a power source, it will shut off, and if you don’t end up plugging it in after 9 minutes, your computer will shut off, but once it’s plugged back into a power source, all of your data and open windows are still saved? Well, my computer isn’t capable of doing any of this anymore. Now, my computer will shut off randomly, without warning, even if my battery meter reads over 30 minutes. Then, once I plug it back into a power source, none of my data is saved, unlike what used to happen before I update.

Although I can’t be 100% sure whether or not this is 10.5.3 related, I am sure that it started to happen once I updated. So, it may very well be a coincidence, but whatever the case is, this problem is definitely an inconvenience and an annoyance.

A recent report posted in the LA Times, showed that 47% of teens in 2007 purchased no music CDs at all. The use of online downloads and illegal pirating proved to be among the top favorite methods of acquiring music.

Some people might argue that this decline in CD purchasing is hurting the music industry, but I beg to differ. Although there is a large number of teens who are using P2P or torrent programs to acquire their music, there are still a lot of loyal fans who either go out and buy their CDs or use online services such as Apples iTunes Music Store. The report shows that 47% of teens bought zero CDs. This means, that more than half of teens are still buying CDs, which in my mind, is still a large number, considering all of the alternatives there are to acquiring music.

The decline in physical CD purchasing is somewhat of a good thing. Each CD contains a paper booklet, a plastic case and a metal CD. By reducing the number of these we buy, we’re saving the environment. Now, surly one CD won’t do much to the environment, but when you look at it on a worldwide scale, the number of artists, album and fans, you’re looking at hundreds of thousands -if not millions - of CDs not being put into production, which in the long run, cuts down on pollution. Not only because of the physical material that makes up the CD and it’s package, but the transportation it takes creates air pollution, as well as the air pollution created when consumers take their cars or busses to go buy the CD. So, by purchasing your music online, you’re saving the environment and you can browse through the music in the comforts of your own home!

Music pirates are all around us, and for teenagers, it’s the most popular way of getting music. Pirating has become so popular, that it’s considered normal and okay. The record labels are hit the hardest when music is illegally downloaded. For the actual artists, the loss is a lot less severe because they don’t make all that much money from record sales. Most of their money is made on their live shows and merchandise sales. Which is why artists like Radiohead and Saul Williams were able to pretty much “give away” their albums in a “pay what you think it’s worth” campaign.

I feel that these recent reports of the decline of CD sales and the general feeling of the music industries down time doesn’t reflect or affect the music artists are creating. Whether 47% of teens don’t buy CDs or not, I feel that the musicians who truly care about the music they make and the fans they please, will still continue to do so, and those who are just in it for the fame and money, will slowly disappear.

So, if you’re truly a fan of music and want to support your favorite artist, buy their music, or at the very least, go to their live show and buy merchandise. Anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated, and will be given back to you in the form of new records and releases.

Although no dates or cities have been posted yet, I can only imagine that he would touch up on some of the big areas. I’m personally hoping that he stops by in Montreal. I’ve been waiting for him to come here for over two years now, and this tour might just be one of the greatest hip-hop shows to hit Montreal for awhile.

He’s touring with Lupe Fiasco, N.E.R.D. and Rihanna. I’m definitely excited to see Lupe Fiasco. I like N.E.R.D., but their not a group that I’m dying to see. As for Rihanna, I’m somewhat speechless. I don’t know how someone like Kanye West can tour with Rihanna. I think they’re on the same record label, which might have been a factor in the decision, but honestly, it knocks off a few points off of the tour. It would have been great to see either Common, John Ledgend or Mos Def instead of Rihanna, but I guess you can’t win ‘em all.

I honestly can’t wait until the dates are posted. I’m hoping and praying he comes to Montreal, and if he comes to a city near you, I strongly suggest you go out and check him out. This tour won’t be a disappointment.

Being the year 2008, more and more people are creating their own blogs. May they be photo blogs, personal blogs, tech blogs or art blogs, they’re still blogs non-the less.

I’ve been blogging for about 8 months now, and i’ve learnt a thing or two in the process, that I feel are worth sharing.

Write about something things you’re passionate about.
It’s important that you write about something you not only enjoy, but something you’re knowledgeable in. Don’t write about a topic because it has a big fan-base. Not only will readers become bored of your blog, but you will as well. So, keep the topics to things that you like, and things that you’re motivated to write about.

Post regularly.
I can’t say that I follow this rule religiously, as I sometimes post every 2 days and at other times, I post ever 2 weeks. However, it’s important that you keep a regular posting schedule, especially when you first start out. If your posts are very sparse and unpredictable, your readers will eventually fade away, as they won’t know when they should expect a new post. When you first start your blog, try and post something new two or three times a week. Once you get a loyal fan-base, you can post a little less often, but still keep constant.

Quality, not quantity.
I see more and more blogs that contain over 5 to 10 posts a day, but each of the posts are just links to other peoples blogs or pictures or things of that sort. These blogs rarely have original material, which can become boring. Make sure the work you post is well thought out and is original material. People will come back to your blog if you write informative and descriptive posts. If you can write 5 to 10 posts a day, that are informative, descriptive and original, then hey, more power to ya’.

Pick a good looking theme.
It’s important that you pick a clean, modern, easy-to-use theme. Your readers won’t come back if you’re site looks bad or unprofessional. Also, be sure to make it easy to navigate. The worst thing you can do is have a site that people can’t find their way around in. Lastly, don’t fill your site with ads. You can have a few here and there (as I do), but don’t put ads after each post, and have 10 different ad companies plastered on the side of your home page. This just makes you look like you’re blogging for the wrong reasons.

Get involved in the community.
It’s important that you contribute to other blogs and online communities. This will allow you to meet new people and make online friend. Some of my most loyal readers, are those that i’ve meet online through various sites such as Flickr, DeviantART and Twitter. By commenting on other peoples work, you make yourself a little more known, and eventually, the people you comment on will take an interest in what you have to offer.

Be patient.
When first starting out, you’ll get very little to almost no views on your site. The key is to be patient. Once you’ve posted some quality work, established a regular schedule and become involved in various online communities, you’ll start to get some hits. After a short while, you’ll gain loyal readers that will subscribe to your site or visit regularly and they will tend to leave comments on a majority of the stuff you post. So, like anything, if you give it time, you’ll be sure to see results.

Those are the most useful tips I have to offer. I know a lot of them have been posted by others before, but I figured I would re-post them in my own words, as they are things I have followed for the most part and i’ve seen work first hand. So, if you’re new to the blogging world, welcome, and if follow these tips, you’ll slowly get regular and loyal readers.

Hope that helped!

The Keynote came and went, and let me start off by saying; I was disappointed.

The Keynote took off with the introduction of “Time Capsule.” Time Capsule is Apples version of an external Hard Drive, only wireless. I think having wireless backup is a great idea. I personally have both of my external hard drive hidden away under my desk. Thankfully, I was able to wire everything fine, but this might not be the case for some people. With Time Capsule, you can backup multiple computers in the house, all wirelessly.

I think it’s a great idea by Apple, but I really wish they would have come up with a more original design for it. It’s pretty much an Airport Extreme, only thiner, wider and with a silver Apple on the top. The 500GB goes for $299.00 USD, and the 1,000GB goes for $499.00 USD. A little pricey in my eyes, but then again, it’s wireless.

For now, I’ll stick with my LaCie Porsche Hard Drives, thank you very much.

iPhone and iPod Touch updates came next. Overall, these updates were just small little software updates and additions.

The iPhone received web clips, maps with locations, SMS with multiple people, customizable home screen, chapters and iPhone SDK is expected in February of this year. These software updates will be available as of today, for free.

When the iPod Touch was announced in September, talk of future updates that would include Mail, Weather, ect was circulating. Because the iPod Touch has Wi-Fi, people were scratching their heads as to why Apple didn’t include these features out-of-the-box. Well, today, these applications have been released. Like the iPhone, the iPod Touch can now have Mail, Weather, Notes, Stocks and Maps. Although a cool and useful update, it doesn’t come free. In order to get these extra little bells and whistles, you’ll have to cough up $20.00.

This next announcement, has been flying around the Internet for months now, and it’s finally here. iTunes Movie Rentals. Launching today (in the US only), the rental store will feature 1000 movies and movies will become available 30 days after their DVD release. The rentals can be watched on Macs, PCs, iPods and iPhone and once rented, you’re given 30 days to start the movie, and 24 hours to complete it. Each rental will cost $2.99, 3.99 for new releases and $4.99 for HD movies (only 100 titles available right now). This will make movie rentals easy! *iTunes Movie Rentals will be available to more countries later this year.

Apple TV Update came next. There isn’t to much new about the Apple TV. The only real new feature is that, you no longer need a computer. You can still sync stuff with your Mac or PC, but now you can buy music, download podcasts and view photos from Flickr or .Mac all from your Apple TV, no computer necessary. The price also went from $299.00 to $249.00.

Lastly, MacBook Air. The rumors proved to be right on this one. Apple releases an ultra-portable, ultra-thin, ultra-lightweight notebook today, by the name of “MacBook Air”.

The notebook is 0.76″ at its thickets part and 0.16″ at its thinest part. It features a full-sized, MacBook-like ambient light sensor keyboard, a 13.3″ LED backlit widescreen and a multi-touch trackpad, allowing you to zoom in and out of things just by moving your fingers. All packaged into a 3 pound machine.

Being ultra-portable comes with some downsides. A huge one for a lot of people, is the lack of an optical drive. For $99.00, an external one can be bought from Apple, but that just adds clutter to your desk, however, there is apparently software that’s in the works, which will allow you to “borrow” the optical drive from another Mac or PC. The machine comes with only 1 USB 2.0 port, and no Firewire ports. It also doesn’t come with an Apple remote.

Now to move onto the negatives of the notebooks specs. Being ultra-thin, makes it hard to hold a lot of power, which I feel is a major downfall in this product. Running a 1.6GHz or optional 1.8GHz with a standard 2GBs of RAM across the board and a 80GB hard drive or an optional 64GB SSD hard drive, doesn’t allow for that much performance. Although I understand it’s not a pro line notebook and it’s meant for easy and simple portability, I feel that, with the lack of an optical drive, USB ports and only sporting a small 80GB hard drive (which for todays standards, is quite small), the average consumer is getting ripped off. Of course, if priced a around $1,000.00, this notebook would be a pretty great option for many people, however, this isn’t the case. The bottom line MacBook Air has a tag of $1,799.00 and for the SSD hard drive with the extra 200MHz boost, you’re looking at over $3,000.00! That’s insane! For the same price, you can get an amazing MacBook Pro. Sorry Apple, but that’s way over priced.

Overall, I think the MacBook Air looks nice, but lack performance and is insanely priced. You’d have to be mad to actually buy one of these.

I have to say, this years MacWorld has been a disappointment to me. How do you guys feel about what was announced and released today?

A while back, I posted my top 10 favorite applications (in fact, it was my second post on here). Today, I want to share with you guys, my top 10 most used applications. These are the applications I pretty much have running from the minute I turn on my computer, to the minute I turn it off. So, lets take a look at them, shall we? *List is in order of left to right in how they sit in my dock.

1) Mail: I’ve only been using Mail for about 5 or 6 months now. I used to use Google Notifier, which informed me when I got a new e-mail, which I then had to open Safari and log into Gmail to read my message. Having a little icon in my dock, displaying the number of unread messages, is just fantastic. Not only do I not have to open my browser, log into an account, ect, but I can also have multiple e-mail accounts set up with Mail. The reason why I just recently started using it, is because I never understood how to setup a Gmail account with it. I always thought it was just for .mac accounts. Anyway, now that I have it all set up with 3 different account, it makes incoming and outgoing e-mails so much more enjoyable. So, being an e-mail client, I obviously have this open 24/7.

2) Vienna: I use Vienna as my RSS reader. I personally don’t need anything more than being notified when a site I like has published a new post. That’s pretty much all I use Vienna for. I’m subscribed to 42 sites, and I like to know when a site posts something new. Once Growl notifies me about the post, I open up Vienna and just read it off of the application. It saves me time from going to each site one by one. However, I just like that Vienna is free. I personally wouldn’t want to pay for an RSS reader, as I don’t feel it’s really worth it, which is why I pick Vienna as my RSS reader.

3) Safari: We all use an internet browser, and mine is Safari. I’m just used to the interface, and I feel that it runs a little faster than say, Firefox or Camino. Although, ever since Apple launched Safari 3, I’ve been experiencing nothing but problems. I have to restart it at least 4 or 5 times a day, and it just freezes a lot. Despite all of that, I’m still keen on using Safari, thus making it my browser of choice.

4) iTunes: Being a Mac user, I don’t think it should come as any surprise that I use iTunes. I love iTunes. I have over 75GBs worth of entertainment in it, and it’s just such a great way to organize my music, TV shows, movies, podcasts and more! I wouldn’t think about using anything else to do the job.

5) iCal: I use iCal to write in all upcoming days off, all upcoming concerts, when school assignments are due, important events and things of that nature. I love the interface and its simplicity. I find it to be a great organization tool for me, and I pretty much use it multiple times a day.

6) Photoshop CS3: I’m someone who spends a lot of time working in photoshop. I edit my photos in photoshop, I put together my designs in photoshop, I use photoshop to crop and size images for this site, I pretty much use photoshop for any image related task. I always have it open, just incase I need to quickly tweak something in it. I’ve been using it for over 3 years now, so I don’t know how I would be able to use anything else. It does everything I need it to.

7) Adium: Let me start off by saying; Adium blows everything else ever made, out of the water. Adium is an IM client that allows you to log into multiple IM accounts, such as: MSN, AIM, Yahoo, Jabber and much much more. It gives you the ability to customize the UI like you’d never believe. There are endless possibilities to its customization and plugins, making it my choice for chatting.

8) Twitterific: There are a few Twitter applications out there, but the one I like to use most is Twitterific. I like the simple look of it, and I’ve been using it for some time now, so I’m used to the user interface.

9) Last.FM: Being a member of Last.FM, and always listening to music, my Last.FM application stays open 24/7. I use it to scrobble the music I play out of iTunes, as well as discovering new artists.

10) iStat Menus: This little application sit in the menu bar, and lets you see a number of different things going on in your computer. Things like the computers temperature, CPU usage, Memory usage, Fan speeds, Disk space and much more. I personally find it really handy. I like to see what my computer is doing, and what’s hogging my memory.

So, like I said, these are the applications that I always have running. As soon as my computer turns on, I launch these applications, and I don’t close them until I shut my computer down.

What are some of the applications you guys use a lot?

Well, i’ve decided to join the trend and do a “project 365″. This means that I’ll be posting a new photo every day. I was originally going to do this on Flickr, but I wanted to put up a nice photo blog that people can visit and comment on. So, I spent about an hour and a half yesterday, setting up and putting together my photo blog. *I will still be posting the photos up on Flickr.

Like I stated in the “about” page of the photo blog; there may be some days that I’ll forget to update, or there might be times where the photos lack substance. I’m pretty busy, being only 16, getting through my last year of high school, running WYendrys.com, doing the weekly podcast, doing all the sound-tech stuff for my school, working on my portfolio to get into college, as well as maintaining my social life, it will sometimes become hard to produce good images. So, plesase forgive me if I miss a day, or if a photo is lame.

That being said, I put the photo blog up there for you guys to enjoy, comment (which is done by clicking “details” on the top menu bar), and critique. So, subscribe, enjoy and have a nice day!

This weeks photo, is from a photo shoot I did for my Personal Project. This isn’t the actual piece that’s going in my book. The actual piece is going to be more conceptual and will involve a physical object submerged in the water. Anyway, I thought this might be cool as wallpaper.

It’s that time of year again! MacWorld 2008 is just around the corner, and I’m hoping for some great things from Apple!

Let take some time to voice my predictions and wishes. I personally want to see a 12″ MacBook Pro, 2.4GHz, 4GBs of RAM and up to 250GB hard drive along with a new line of cheaper, brighter and better Apple Cinema Displays. I also want a release date for the iPhone Canada.

I’m personally looking for a smaller MacBook Pro with more power, so that it’s easy for me to take around, but so that when I’m at home, I can hook it up to an external monitor. If Apple releases a new line of ACD’s and that 12″ MacBook Pro I’m hoping for, I’m going to sell my 17″ MacBook Pro, my 15″ iMac G4, some wireless mice and keyboards, an old printer, and whatever else I can, just so I can acquire that set up.

I’m hoping for an iPhone release date in Canada, either at MacWorld, or some other time between Q1 and Q2 of 2008. May is when my parents are going to allow me to have an phone, and so, I want to be able to buy an iPhone straight away, rather than waiting for Apple to release one in 2012, when the iPhone has gone through 10 generations. Although, I don’t think we’ll see an iPhone Canada release date, it’s just wishful thinking.

As far as software goes, this would be around the time where iLife and iWork ‘08 would be released, but we got that last August. I do think however, we might see some iTunes updates. Maybe even iTunes 8.

Anyway, this post became more of a wish list, than a prediction list. So, you heard what I want at MacWorld. What are the things you guys are hoping for?

Hey guys! I know it’s been a long time. I was busy for a little while, and as time went on, I just got out of the habit of writing posts. Although I’m going to be a lot busier in 2008, I’m going to try and post regularly.

WYendrys.com has pretty much been about technology, and mainly focused on Apple related news and rumors. In 2008, I’m going to try and write about other things besides technology, that I take an interest in. I’m also going to try and post some things that I find online, that I just want to share with you guys, that I don’t necessarily want to attach a long post to. That’s kind of what my Tumblr account is for, but I feel that there are some things that deserve to be on the front page of my site.

Other than that, expect some new and regular posts, along with some photography on my Flickr site, and YouTube videos coming later in the year (no, not a video show, I don’t think anyone wants that), and I might have a site re-design.

Anyway, I just wanted to give you guys a little update on that.

I’m going to start the year off right! But, seeing as how we’re still in 2007, I’m gonna take the rest of the year off.
See ya’ll soon!

Hey guys. Yes, I know, MacFocus hasn’t had an episode since November. Everyone on the crew has been busy, Apple news has been a little dull and we’ve just been a little unmotivated to tell you the truth.

Seeing as how the new year is coming, we want to hit it off by releasing regular MacFocus episodes. However, like I said, the team is busy, and often has a hard time finding room in our schedules, so, we are once again going to be hiring. This time, we’re looking for two people. One of which who can edit the show every week and another who can send out the outline of the show (which includes the topics of discussion) two days before we record (weekly). These two people will also be part of the recording, and will be able to voice their opinion.

If you feel you want to be part of the MacFocus team, which currently includes myself, Glenn Wolsey, Nick Danforth, James Matarrese and Truman Kain and know for sure that you’ll be able to put aside one hour to record each week, than feel free to apply for the position. This isn’t a paying job, but if we get sponsored, the money will first be spent on expenses (hosting), and the remains will then be split seven ways between the seven of us.

To have a shot at the position, send an e-mail to MacFocusPodcast@gmail.com and include your name, age, link to your site (if any) and a 100-150 word paragraph on why you think you would make a great MacFocus member.

So, like I said; we’re looking for one person to edit the show each week and another to handle the writing of the weekly outline, which includes finding interesting stories, news and rumors. If there’s someone out there that can do both of those jobs, than you’ll have a much better chance of getting the position.

Incase you don’t get picked to be part of the team, you can still be part of the show by e-mailing in any ideas, questions or suggestions you may have. We’ll gladly answer and discuss the things you have to say on the show. So, don’t hesitate to send things in!

We’re aiming to get the next MacFocus episode out by January 5th, 2008. With a new theme song, a new team, a new logo, and maybe some bonus “extra” recorded audio at the end of each episode? Stay tuned to find out!

Last week, Amazon announced an eBook device, that may just be the begging of a new trend. The device “Kindle”, is a 10.3 ounce piece of hardware, that can hold over 200 books. Rather than carrying around paperback or hardcover books in your bag wherever you go, you can download the books straight onto this device, from any location, and just read them off the screen.

The Kindle is a great concept, but I must say, Amazon didn’t do a great job in executing an appealing device. I think the concept of being able to carry over 200 books, in one small device, is great, however, the device itself, is pretty ugly and bulky. Amazon should have partnered up with Apple, and worked together in this project. Amazon is an online store, not a hardware/software developer. When looking at the Kindle, it reminds me of one of those $30 laptops that are offered at Wal-Mart, which have a “ages 4-6” label on the box. It just looks cheap and unreliable.

Like I said, this is a start to something that may be huge in the future. If a sleeker, more modern looking version of this product were to come out, people would defiantly be interested in one, and even more so if an Apple logo were slapped on the back of it.

Enough of the negatives (which is mainly made up of looks and exterior qualities), lets take a look at what Amazon did right.

• No Computer Required: This is a pretty good feature, as it eliminates the confusing process people seem to experience when syncing a device with their computer.

• $9.99 for New & Best Selling Books: Books are always priced differently. Some will be $23.99, some may be $35.99, but they’re generally in the $20-$30 range. Being able to buy any new or best selling book, at one standard price is great.

• 30 Hour Battery: 30 hours is a long time. A lot of people sit and read for hours, so being able to use this, and not have to worry about charging it, makes it all that much more enjoyable.

• $.99/Month for Blog Subscriptions: Being able to get blog posts wherever you are, is definitely an attractive feature. Although blogs are for free, and you can just read them at home for no price at all, paying a dollar a month, is really nothing.

Overall, this is a great concept, and has a lot of potential, but it still needs work. Amazon needs to team up with a company that’s more experienced in the hardware and software industry, otherwise, this product might fail.

This product sells for $399.00, and will be shipping in mid-December.

As I write this, there are only 42 days until Christmas, and even less time until the holiday season begins. You know, that time of year, where all the kids are exempt from school for 2 or 3 weeks, the time where kids go outside to play in the snow, while their parents are out buying gifts for their kids, writing “Santa” on the “from” part of the label and that time of year, where the sun sets at 4:30 in the afternoon, and you sit by the window, watching the snow fall and pile up high. It’s also getting near the time, where people begin their Christmas lists and Christmas shopping.

This year, I thought I would get an early start. I always leave my shopping to the last minute, when all the good things are gone, and only the left over’s are sitting on the shelves, waiting for me to take them home; this year’s going to be different. I’m starting my shopping early, and my wish list even earlier.

There are a few tech things I’d love to open on Christmas morning. The following is a list of those things.

23” Apple Cinema Display

When I first got my MacBook Pro, the transition from a 15” to a 17” was great. I loved the amount of screen space I gained, and how many windows I could have open at once. As I do more and more design/photo/web work, I tend to have more and more windows open, causing lots of screen clutter. Although I could use spaces to solve this problem, it’s a lot easier to deal with, when I have physical space, rather than virtual space.

EF-S 10-22mm f/2.5-4.5 Wide Lens

I’ll hopefully be picking up a Canon XT/XTi body in late November, which I hope to use for producing jaw-dropping photos. I’ll be picking up a 50mm lens, used for portraits and macro shots, but I need a good, clear and wide lens to use for street and urban photography, which I hope to achieve with this beast of a Lens.

8GB iPhone

Rumors of the iPhone coming to Canada have been circulating the rumor mills for quite some time now, and I’m hoping they are available before Christmas. My parents don’t want me having a cell phone for another half a year or so. So in reality, it’s not really the iPhone itself that I want, but more the ability to have a phone number of my own, that people could call and reach. I’ll take any phone I can get, just as long as I have a phone plan of my own, which I can use to upgrade to an iPhone later. But, getting an iPhone with a plan, would be a major plus.

500GB LaCie Porsche Hard Drive

The space on my 250GB Porsche Hard Drive is slowly decreasing, day-by-day. In no time, I’ll have no space left on it, and I’ll be left with no external back up. Another factor for wanting a second external Hard Drive, is because my current one is formatted at FAT32, and Time Machine used HFS+ formatting, which means I can’t use Time Machine with my current HHD, unless I reformat and lose the current 200GBs worth of data.

Wacom Bamboo Tablet

Seeing as how I’m going into design, I want to be able to do some digital drawings and retouching with a tablet. I’ve seen a few pieces done with tablets, and I really liked the ability and wide range of colors and lines the tablet gave. I’m also working on a thing called a “Personal Project”, which is a solo project, done over the course of a school year. My project is a book of photography and design, so I think having a tablet to use in some of my designs, will aid in improving the outcome of the final product.

Lexmark Wireless Printer

I need a printer, as I don’t currently have one. Because I’m a neat freak when it comes to my desk, I don’t want to have to have the printer sit on it, so having a wireless one will allow me to place it anywhere in my room, and still print from the computer. I’m not really looking for anything spectacular, as I’m probably going to just be printing out school assignments and an occasional photo here and there.

So, that’s a look at the things I want for Christmas. Keep in mind; I’m not asking/expecting to get everything on the list. Getting one or maybe even two will make me more than happy, and keep me busy and productive for the months to come.

What’s on your wish list? What are you doing for the holidays, and what are some of your traditions? I’d love to here some of these things!

Up until about 3 weeks ago, I was using the old Wireless Apple Keyboard. I knew I would eventually want to get the newer, thinner and more compact Apple Wireless Keyboard, so that I could have more desk real estate when working. So, I figured I would pick up one of these bad boys along with Leopard.

Like all Apple products, this keyboard is far from an eyesore. As the years go by, their products get smaller, thinner, lighter and prettier, and that’s exactly what this keyboard is.

Lets look at the positive sides of the keyboard.

• The slim profile allows the keyboard to be used in the smallest of spaces. The size is roughly equivalent to that of a MacBook Pro keyboard, measuring up to 12.8” x 7.3” x 1.4 “. So whether you’re someone who keeps their desk clean, or someone who has papers all over the place, there will definitely be room for this small keyboard.

• Unlike the previous keyboard, this one has a small set of media keys, which include functions like: play/pause, forwards and backwards song navigation, Exposé, Dashboard and two extra keys that can be used for things like: Spaces and a second Exposé command.

• The right side of the keyboard, had a power button, which can be used to conserve battery power, as leaving it on 24/7 will drain the battery a lot faster than using it only when needed.

• The keyboard only takes three batteries, compared to the four that the previous version took.

• If you’re someone like me, who eats at their desk (I know – big no-no.), and tend to get crumbs on their keyboard, then this is a much better alternative to the previous Apple keyboard. When crumbs got on the old keyboard, they were visible through its clear casing. With this keyboard, it just gets under the case, and no one will ever know that a meal took place. (This isn’t an invitation to eat or drink at your desk, if you do, please do so with caution).

• This goes without saying; the design is just really cool!

Lets look at the small list of negatives.

• Probably one of the most disappointing parts of this keyboard is the lack of a number pad. Using Calculator or Numbers for example, was so much easier and quicker with the number pad at hand, so workflow may decrease for some people who do a lot of number entering on a day to day basis.

• The keyboard doesn’t really match any Apple computer. The iMacs are silver and black, the MacBook Pros are silver, the MacBooks are white and black and the Mighty Mouse is white, so really, you’re getting a bit of all worlds in this keyboard, which may be good for some, but for people like me, who like clean and sleek set ups, it’s important that everything goes well with each other.

• When I first got the keyboard, some keys I hit would type a letter three times, rather than once, which was annoying, but the problem seems to have vanished.

Lets recap the pros and the cons.

Pros:

Slim and sleek design.
Programmable media keys.
Power Button.
Only needs three batteries.
Doesn’t show much dirt and dust.

Cons:

Lack of a number pad.
Non-matching design.
Experienced problems out of the box.

So, for general use, this keyboard is great. Naturally, the transition from another keyboard to this one, will take about a week, to get used to the key placement and spacing, but after that, everything is smooth sailing. Looking at the list of Pros and Cons, it’s easy to see that the list of Cons is more leaned towards preference and nitpicking, whereas the Pros list is more based on functionality and usability.

This keyboard can be picked up for $79.00, and if you really want to go for a clean and sleek Apple look, pick up the Wireless Mighty Mouse, but read my review on it first, before spending the $70.00 on it.

Hope this review helped you in your keyboard endeavors.

The closest Apple store to me is about 30 to 45 minutes away. I knew that if I had spent the extra time on the road, I would have gotten a t-shirt, a family pack of Leopard like I wanted, and probably a high five from their employees. However, I heard that an Apple reseller, under then name “iStore Boutique” was opening on the 27th, but they would be selling Leopard at 6:00 on the 26th, and it was only 15 minutes away. I figured I would give that place a shot, since it was new and closer to my house.

I got in line at around 5:50, holding a 4th place position. The ten-minute wait was awful. There were three kids, no older than 7 years old, banging at the window, screaming random Apple things, such as; “he has an iPhone” and “look how small that Mac is!” than once we got inside, the older people got in line to buy Leopard, and these kids said with curiosity “why’s everyone in line for?” Once the kids found something to do, I was more focused at what was going on in the line.

The cashier took about 5 to 8 minutes to ring up each customer. So, by the time it was my turn, it was around 6:20, which is 30 minutes of waiting. I get to the cashier, looked into her eyes, and with excitement I said “one family pack of Leopard please”. She looked at me, and said “oh, I’m sorry, but we’re only getting those tomorrow.” I wasn’t pleased at all. Not only did I not get a t-shirt, but I also didn’t get a copy of Leopard. I got over the fact a few hours later, knowing that I would have Leopard in my hands only half a day later.

The next morning comes along, I leave my house at around 10:30 to get my copy of Leopard bright an early, so I could install it and give my thoughts on it for MacFocus. I walk in, and am greeted by two of the employees, as it was their official grand opening. One guy stops me, asking me to fill out a form, for a chance to win an iPod of some sort. As I walked to the cash, I was stopped once more, by an employee with a microphone and a man holding a camera. The employee asks, “can I ask you some questions”, so I politely said yes, answered them, and went on my way to the cash. The line to the cash took about 10 minutes this time, and when I finally got there, I asked for the Leopard family pack, only to hear “I’m sorry, we’re only getting those in at noon”. This killed me. I went outside, told my dad that they were only getting them in at noon, so he decided to go in. He asked when they were getting them in, and he got; “not for a week or two”. I was now furious, at the fact that they lied to me, making me think it would only take an hour more before I got Leopard in my hand.

“Apple store in Laval, here we come!” I thought to myself. As soon as I got there, I saw it was packed, all computers and iPods being used, and a line up that contained at least 15 customers. I go to where the copies of Leopard were and I saw a line up of “Family Pack” copies, so I took one of those and a new wireless keyboard and before I knew it, I was next in line. I paid for the stuff, and went on home.

Moral of this store? Stick to the real Apple stores, because the service is great, they always have what you want, and they wont lie to you 3 times in a span of 24 hours. I know that’s the last time I ever go to the iStore in Westmount. Shame on you iStore, shame on you.
How was everyone else’s 10/26?

The time is finally upon us. It’s been two years and some change since the last retail release of a Mac OS. October 26th 2007 marks the date when all Mac enthusiasts, will come together at their local Apple store to purchases the oh-so anticipated release of Mac OS 10.5!

A re-designed Finder, Spaces, Time Machine and Quicklook are only 4 of the 300 many wonderful reasons to go out and buy this $129.00 package. There’s none of this “premium, pro, home or business” edition stuff. You get what you need and want, all on one DVD.

What am I most excited about for Leopard? Mainly the new interface and time machine. I’m sure I’ll find little features here and there that I’ll find cool, but I’m most excited about the iTunes-like features. How about you? What features are you anticipating the most? Are you getting it the first day, month, year? Let me know your thoughts!

For those of you that don’t already know; I spilt a large cup of tea all over my MacBook Pro, about three or four weeks ago. As soon as it happened, I lifted up the 6.8-pound beast, turned it off and then turned it upside down. I quickly got some paper towels, and wiped off any visible moisture.

Most of the tea was spilt on the laptops keyboard. I wasn’t sure how far the tea had gone, so I decided to take off one of the keys, just to see how moist it was underneath. The lucky key was the “K” key. I carefully unsnapped the key from the two white latches it was holding onto, and then shortly afterwards, tried reattaching it, with no luck. I took out the two white latches and the key and set them both aside, until I was comfortable turning my computer back on, which was a day and a half later.

When everything was fine and running (thank god), I made a thread on MacRumors, asking for advice on how I should go about putting in this key. I got a few responses and guides, which I read thoroughly. It was my time to shine; instructions in hand, pictures on the monitor and the pieces right in front of me. I tried to put the pieces in the little space provided, but it just wouldn’t go in. I tried numerous times, and still nothing. After about thirty minutes of trying, I decided to use some force, which wasn’t the greatest idea. After using force, the key still wouldn’t go into place, but while trying to force it in, one of the pegs on the latches broke, making any further attempts useless.

Undiscouraged, I figured I would take my computer along with the key and latches to my local Apple store. I told them my situation, and that one of the pegs from the latches broke. The Apple service rep. cringed his teeth and took a deep breath in. He told me I would have to leave my computer in for 48 hours, so that they could replace the whole keyboard. I was pretty startled, and asked him “why does it take so long to replace one simple key?” The rep. responded with “We don’t stock keys or latches, and Apple doesn’t either – we have to order a whole new MacBook Pro keyboard, and replace it with your current one.”

So, I basically have to leave my computer in for two days, because my K key needs to be replaced. As of right now, I’m pushing this repair back for a while, because I just don’t have the time for my computer to be away for that long. If it were a broken hard drive or logic board, I could understand, and I pretty much wouldn’t have an option, but I just can’t understand why it takes so long for them to do such a simple job.

If anyone knows of a place where I can just pick up a new latch, or something, that would be a great help and time saver.

Applecare is normally really great, fast and painless, but I’ve found this situation to be a real pain. So, enough of me and my story – let’s hear some of your good and bad Applecare experiences.

The Tumbelog will probably be something I update everyday, or even up to twice a day. It won’t be for long, detailed posts, but more of a sharing of links, photos and videos type of thing.

Anyway, I just thought I would let you guys know that it’s up and running, with the first post already up. Wallpaper Wednesday will be up in a few hours. Take it easy until then.

I would really like to set one up, because I want to keep you guys up-to-date with things going on in my life, and I want to be able to share other things with you guys, but I can’t really do that, because I want to keep this page for Mac and tech things.

So, if anyone knows a way that I can install one, so that it’s linked to a sperate page (with the same theme I’m currently using) I’ll greatly appreciate it, and I’ll post your link up with a little thank you once I get it installed and working.

Unfortunately, today I found out that Alex Killpatrick will not be able to join us in future MacFocus episodes. Fortunately for you guys, that means that you have a chance to be part of the team. We’re looking for someone who is knowledgeable in technology, and shows great interest in discussing his or her views with others. You can be male or female, from anywhere in the world. It would be beneficial that you own a Mac, but you can be a Windows user (just as long as you know a lot about macs).

If you feel you want to be part of the MacFocus teams, which currently includes myself, Glenn Wolsey and Nick Danforth, and know for sure that you’ll be able to put aside one hour to record each week, than feel free to apply for the position. This isn’t a paying job, but if we get sponsored, the money will first be spent on expenses (hosting), and the remains will then be split four ways between the four of us.

To have a shot at the position, send an e-mail to MacFocusPodcast@gmail.com and include your name, age, link to your site (if any) and a 100-150 word paragraph on why you think you would make a great MacFocus member.

Hopefully we’ll find someone qualified and commented before the end of the week, so that we can include him or her into Episode 5.

Incase you don’t get picked to be part of the team, you can still be part of the show by e-mailing in any ideas, questions or suggestions you may have. We’ll gladly answer and discuss the things you have to say on the show. So, don’t hesitate to send things in!

Every week, I pick an album that I enjoy, and want to share with you. I try to change the style and genre from week to week, so that you can listen to and discover new artists. Some of the music is mainstream, and some of it is independent.

Last week, Kanye West released his third studio album; “Graduation”. If you didn’t already know; 50 Cents and Kanye Wests albums were released on the same day, and both artists were competing for the most record sales. 50 Cent had made a bet, that if Kanye were to outsell him, he would stop making music. It’s this reason that I’m picking “Graduation” for this week; I support Kanye 100%.

Although this album doesn’t stand as tall as Collage Dropout or Late Registration, it’s still a genius album by Kanye. Some songs however, like “Drunken Hot Girls” featuring Mos Def, are a huge disappointment. You would think that teaming up with such a great MC like Mos Def, would have a great outcome, but “Drunken Hot Girls” is just trashy. But songs like Stronger, I Wonder & Homecoming make up for it.

You can listen to a good portion of the album, if not all of it, on Kanye’s website.

I just wanted to let you guys know that I’m still here and still alive. I haven’t had the chance to write posts, because I’m getting settled into school, and I’ve just been really tired lately. I started WYendrys.com in July, and wrote a post every day since then, after a while of doing this, it gets hard, and I’ve noticed that my posts have been more quantity, than quality. So, starting now, I’m not going to write a post everyday because I have to, instead, I’m going to try and do at least 4 a week (including a wallpaper Wednesday and an album of the week). This will insure that I’m writing quality posts, instead of writing short, lazy posts because I feel the need to write one everyday.

Another reason that I’m going to be writing less frequently, is because I have MacFocus to do once a week, and I may also be writing for another site, but it’s not confirmed yet; as soon as it is, I’ll let you guys know.

So yeah, I’m still alive and well, but I’ve just been tired lately, and couldn’t keep up with this daily post thing. Hope you guys understand!

Each week, I find and share a wallpaper which I personally enjoy and use. I try and find wallpapers that are HD quality, so that people with larger displays can enjoy them just as much.

This week’s wallpaper is “Sunday” brought to you by Manicho. This is the second wallpaper I’ve posted by Manicho. I could post tons of his, as they’re all great. He’s currently doing a month long project, where he posts a wallpaper for each day of the week. He’s currently finished two weeks out of the four.

I picked ‘Sunday’, because I personally like it a lot, but all of his latest wallpapers are fantastic. You can find more of his stuff here.

I don’t really have a lot of widgets on my dashboard. I only have about 10. 6 of which are 3rd party. I thought I would share the widgets I personally find useful, with you guys.

1. iStat Pro: This handy thing monitors most of my computers activity. It lets me know my CPU and RAM usage, my computers temperature and fan speed, and amount of hard drive space used and free. Overall, iSlayer has done an excellent job with this widget, and it my most used one.

2. Dugg: This little widget keeps me up to date with some of the latest duff stories on Digg. I’m not a huge “digger”, but I enjoy reading some of the stories and keeping up to date.

3. Dashalytics: I use this to track all the traffic on my site. It makes it a lot easier than logging into an account each time, and going into the back end of stuff. It’s pretty accurate and again; the interface is nice.

4. Countdown: I have 3 or 4 of these open at once counting down to events or concerts or something. They’re really useful, and have a decent interface. Although, they make time seem like it’s going by a lot slower than it really is.

5. Plasma Tube: This isn’t really a useful widget, but it’s a fun thing to watch. It’s much cooler than “I Love Lamp” by iSlayer.

So, those are my top five. What are some of yours, and why.

After only being on the market for about two months, Apple has managed to sell over 1,000,000 iPhones in the USA alone. Making at least $500,000,000 worth of sales, along with a percentage of money from each AT&T contract.

This is a great milestone for Apple, and proves that they can sell almost anything to anyone. This phone as meant to compete with the Blackberrys and Treos, which are used by people wearing, suits and ties in business. However, Apple has managed to get quite a large number of these devices into the hands of regular phone users, that don’t need to get their e-mail on the road or need Internet.

If you make a shiny toy, with an Apple logo on it, it’s bound to sell. With the recent price drop of $200, the recent news of software hacks and upcoming releases in other countries, it looks like Apple will be having a great holiday season. The 16GB iPod Touch is of equal price to that of the 8GB iPhone.

I’ve gotten questions on which is the better deal, and which one I would get. My answer to this is; the iPod Touch. The iPod Touch is pretty much the same thing as the iPhone, minus the phone and built in camera. Although the iPod Touch can’t get e-mails and stuff right now, I’m sure within a few months, someone will figure out a way to do so. Not only that, but the iPod Touch is twice the amount of space of the iPhone, and the Internet is free. A huge downside to the iPhone, is the outrageous phone bills that are attached to it. You’re looking at paying over $100 a month on phone calls and laggy Internet.

I wanted an iPhone, because of its touch screen interface, sleek design and overall coolness. With the iPod Touch, I can pretty much get all of those features, without worrying about getting huge phone bill in the mail.

Anyway, great job Apple. I’m looking forward to seeing Q3 and Q4 sales results.

With the recent $200 price drop of the iPhone, early iPhone adopters were not happy. Furious at the fact they they had spent an extra $200 on a device that’s just two months old, iPhone owners made it apparent that they were enraged.

Steve Jobs said it best “being in technology for 30+ years I can attest to the fact that the technology road is bumpy. There is always change and improvement, and there is always someone who bought a product before a particular cutoff date and misses the new price or the new operating system or the new whatever. This is life in the technology lane. If you always wait for the next price cut or to buy the new improved model, you’ll never buy any technology product because there is always something better and less expensive on the horizon. The good news is that if you buy products from companies that support them well, like Apple tries to do, you will receive years of useful and satisfying service from them even as newer models are introduced.”

I agree 100% with this statement. Whenever you’re going to spend a few hundred dollars on technology, you have to understand that something newer, better and cheaper will be right around the corner. If you keep waiting for that newer, better and cheaper device, you’re never going to end up buying anything.

Apple has generously offered a $100 store credit for anyone with an iPhone purchased before September 5th, and a $200 refund for anyone who bought an iPhone 14 days before September 5th. This is an unnecessary and kind act by Apple. Companies like this have no obligation to refund money just because the price has dropped.
